Jamb Paints, Exterior Jamb Coating Paint Application
There is no special paint product called jamb paints. Exterior paint types are also jamb paints. It is used after exterior sheathing application. According to this, jamb paints consist of four main substances. These are pigments, binders, chemical additives and solvents.
Pigments: They are solid particles in powder form. They impart the properties of covering, colour, durability and gloss to the paint.
Binders: They hold the pigments together and reveal the paint film. They give the paint the properties of adhesion, hardness, durability and resistance to external factors.
Chemical Additives: It is used to treat the properties of the paint. For example; such as mold resistance and fluidity.
Solvents: They are volatile and act as a thinner when applying the paint without changing the properties of the paint.
Exterior paint types
Acrylic: Acrylic copolymer binder based, top coat exterior paint. It has high alkali resistance and is extremely resistant to sun rays, precipitation, humidity and salty moisture on the seashore. It is a protective and decorative paint that is easily applied, provides good covering.
Silicone: Acrylic copolymer binder based, silicone exterior paint. With its high water repellent feature, it does not allow the surface to pass water. It is resistant to humidity, humidity and salt water with its high alkali resistance. It allows long-term use by preventing the sun's rays from deforming the paint film and changing color. It prevents the accumulated moisture from damaging the interior and exterior facades by allowing the surface to breathe through the silicon in its content.
Grainy: It is a water-based, acrylic copolymer binder-based, siliconized matte exterior paint made with fine patterned roller, patterned with roller. It prevents the accumulated moisture from damaging the interior and exterior facades by allowing the surface to breathe.
Elastic: It is an acrylic-based, elastic exterior paint, breathes the surfaces, and is resistant to external influences.
How are jamb paints made on the exterior?
Before painting: The most important point in exterior jamb and sheathing paint programs is to remove the defects and dirt on the surface. The most common problem is cracks in the walls. All drain pipes must be inspected for rust and leaks. If any malfunction is found, it must be repaired. More attention should be paid to the roofs. Cracks that may occur in the corners and water pipes should be checked.
Surface preparation: Dirty or loose textures are cleaned on the surfaces where it will be made for the first time, and the parts that swell and dust on old painted surfaces are cleaned. It is recommended to wash the raw plastered surfaces with a lot of lime before applying the primer and paint by mixing 1 part vinegar with 1 part water.
If there is fungus or mold formation on the surface, it should be cleaned thoroughly by brushing. Glossy surfaces due to the old exterior cladding should be sanded to a more matte state. This will provide better adhesion between the surface and the paint. Concrete surfaces should be smoothed, cleaned, washed and left to dry. Before painting, make sure that there is no chalking on the surface. Paint should not be applied in the rain. If such a situation is encountered, the surface should be allowed to dry in the sun for 2-3 days and then the painting should be started. New plaster applied surfaces should be allowed to set before painting.
The durability of jamb paints depends on how well they adhere to the surface. In addition, the weather conditions in which the paint is made and the humidity on the walls are also important factors. You may need to recognize such details from the past and act accordingly and make some repairs. Although the preparation takes a long time, the effort and time you spend will return to you as a smooth and permanent exterior paint program.
Weather Conditions: You should plan the time you will paint the exterior well and take care that it does not coincide with rainy, closed, extremely hot or cold weather and windy days.
You should take care not to paint the jamb at 5 ºC . Since the water vapor in the 5 ºC air will turn into water particles, it will be due to the wetness of the surface.
Surface Cleaning: A clean surface is very important for exterior paint. Before starting the painting, all areas to be painted should be thoroughly washed by spraying pressurized water after sanding, if necessary. You should not forget that it is necessary to wait at least 48 hours for the surface to dry, and do not start painting until you are sure that it is completely dry!
Excess of problems in exterior paint are caused by moisture. Excess moisture prevents the jamb paint from sticking to the material and causes blistering, flaking and mold to appear.
Importance of Moisture-Free Surface: In some cases, moisture may be caused by a structural problem. Problems such as leaking water pipes or moisture coming from the soil reaching the walls should definitely be fixed before painting. Otherwise, you can see that the paint starts to swell after a while after it is applied. These problems are not only unpleasant but also harmful for building purposes. It should be used immediately after the exterior thermal insulation application.
